HAMILTON COUNTY, IA — A wrong-way crash on Highway 20 in central Iowa left two people dead Wednesday. The Iowa State Patrol says the collision happened around noon in Hamilton County near mile marker 140.

How The Crash Unfolded

Investigators say a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Joseph Kennedy, 69, of Alden, was traveling east in the westbound lane when it collided with a 2020 Ram 1500 driven by Aaron Scott Gomez, 40, of Harlingen, Texas.

After the impact, the Silverado stopped in the median, while the Ram came to rest on the outside shoulder.

Two Drivers Died

The Iowa State Patrol said Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene. Gomez was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No additional details about their conditions were released in the initial report.

Emergency Crews Assisted

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Webster City Fire Department and EMS, and Tony’s Towing all responded to help at the scene.

Their work helped clear the roadway and support the ongoing investigation.

Investigation Continues

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation. The patrol has not said what led the Silverado into the wrong-way lane.

For now, the focus is on sorting out the sequence of events and the cause of the fatal collision.
