Severe Storms Damage Buildings, Topple Trees and Knock Out Power Across Wisconsin as Crews Assess Widespread Cleanup

OSHKOSH, WI — A round of severe weather swept through Wisconsin on Wednesday and left damage in communities across the state. No tornadoes had been confirmed as of the report, though a few tornado warnings were issued during the storms.

Wind and outages in the north

In northeast Wisconsin, strong winds brought down trees and power lines, triggering thousands of outages. Officials reported a wind gust of 94 mph in Oshkosh, one of the strongest readings mentioned in the update.

Heavy damage in the south

The southern part of the state saw some of the worst destruction. Roofs and pieces of buildings were torn away, and in some places structures were left badly damaged or reduced to rubble.

Storm threat continues

More storms were possible Thursday afternoon, keeping the region on alert for another round of rough weather. Some events had already been canceled because of the forecast.

Cleanup and reporting
